Keelboat

The one fleet nobody can watch from shore

A coastal race is out of sight in twenty minutes and does not come back for three hours. Everyone left at the club sees nothing — which is exactly the case where a map changes everything.

The class

Long courses, crews with set roles, and boats that differ from one another and race on corrected time. What makes tracking matter here is not the analysis: it is that the race can be watched at all, because there is no other way.

What the replay shows

The fleet, from the clubhouse

On a screen in the bar, positions updating on their own. Today that job is done by a WhatsApp group and calls on the VHF.

Positions kept, for a protest

A disputed start, or a mark rounding three miles offshore. The data is there; the decision stays with the committee.

The course actually sailed, not the one planned

How many miles each boat sailed against the straight line between marks, and on which leg the gap was made.

What we do NOT calculate: corrected time

SailRadar applies no ORC, IRC or any other rating system: it records elapsed times and tracks. Corrected results stay with the committee and its usual software. If that is the part you need solved, we are not your tool today — and we would rather say so now than later.

Fitting it

Aboard, with no installation and without touching the boat’s electronics. A keelboat race runs for hours, not minutes: tell us how long yours is and we will confirm it against your figure before you buy anything.

We have not tracked a keelboat race yet. The device is the same and does not depend on the boat, so it works just as well; what changes is what is worth looking at afterwards. If your club sails the class, we will set the first one up with you.

Your club’s next race

Devices are handed out before launching and collected on the way back in: nothing changes about how you run the race. If you would rather see it before deciding, write to us and we will set it up on one of your own races.
